The Story BehindWhat Your Numbers Say

The idea for What Your Numbers Say came from recognising that some people running owner-managed businesses can feel unsure about what the figures in their completed annual accounts mean or what they should be looking at.

The accounts may contain the financial story of an entire year, but that story is not always easy to see through accounting terminology and financial statements.

We also understood that business owners may sometimes want another point of view without feeling comfortable sharing their accounts within their usual circle. They may simply want a private, independent set of eyes to help them understand what changed and what they should be looking at.

Our team brings more than a decade of experience working with accounts. We wanted to use that experience to help business owners see the story behind their figures in a clear and accessible way.

That is why What Your Numbers Say was created—to provide a personalised, plain-English explanation of the important movements shown in a company’s final annual accounts.

For us, understanding the numbers is not about turning business owners into accountants. It is about helping them ask more informed questions, take greater ownership of the financial conversation around their business and approach future decisions with greater confidence.

The report is designed as a supplementary companion to the company’s final annual accounts, presenting the key figures and movements in a more accessible and understandable way. It is not an audit, another set of accounts or a tax computation. Further details about its scope and limitations are set out in our service information.
